Plan E's 3rd full length album shows improvement since their predecessor Found & Lost. Few years ago I listened to Plan E for the first time, and I wasn't so fond of what I heard (Found & Lost wasn't anything spectacular). It was a really mediocre album, which I didn't find interesting enough to give Plan E another chance. Well now I received a promotional copy of their 3rd album, so I'm listening to them once again.
Songs are still quite mediocre, although some of them were ok (they've improved). According to the promo sheet, this is Jani Lehtosaari's "most incredible, avantgardish and minimalistic album". Well, I agree with this description (with the experience of having heard one of his albums earlier). By the way, during 1996-2000 Jani played bass in Impaled Nazarene. However, Plan E's music contains no traces of this.
Production has taken a leap forward (compared to their earlier albums). Nevertheless, the distorted rhythm parts didn't sound good enough (they should have used real distorted guitars instead of distorted synth and bass). Otherwise this album has been done well (sound-wise).
Although I'm not so fond of Plan E's music, this album ain't bad. As the promo sheet suggested, fans of Nick Cave, Joy Division and Beyond Dawn find their definitive pleasure in Plan E's music. I advise you to check out samples on their website, as they give quite a good image of their music.
