Although the title suggests of speedy shred instrumentals, this album doesn't fall into that category. "Speed, Traffic & Guitar Accidents" is Joop Wolters' follow-up to his debut instrumental album "Workshop". I was relieved to notice the diversity of this album... Everything from calm acoustic songs to fast and furious guitar noodling is included on this album.
As the material on this album is quite diverse, there should be a song for every taste... Actually there are quite a few good songs, but not all of the songs succeed in convincing me. One of the best songs on this album is Canned Heart (I've got a soft spot for emotional guitar playing). On the other hand, some ridiculous guitar noodling doesn't have any effect on me (unless it's heading somewhere).
Production on this album varies quite a lot... Occasionally it's good, but every now and then some guitar parts get distorted. Also some clipping occurred a few times.
Joop Wolters could record a great guitar instrumental album (as some songs on this album proved)... However, this time his attempt was only half-measured. Nevertheless, fans of instrumental guitar music might (and probably will) find this album interesting.
