Aarni comes from Finland (to be more specific, Aarni resides in Oulu). Basically Aarni is one-man band consisting of Markus Marjomaa. However, Marjomaa prefers to call himself "Master Warjomaa". Bathos is Aarni's first full-length debut album.

Music of Aarni ranges from doomish and folkish metal to ambient. However, Aarni manages to keep the music in a balanced "package". Some parts of Aarni's songs remind me of different artists (for example, the beginning of 6th song sounds really familiar, maybe it's taken from Opeth). Actually it was written on the liner notes that "All music and lyrics invented or stolen by Markus Marjomaa".

Production-wise this album could be better. The distorted guitar tone doesn't sound too good, and also the drum sound could be better. Also few clips occurred and few guitar parts & some drum parts got distorted. Other than that, the production is ok.

Overall, Aarni's Bathos is a decent album... Bathos would benefit from better vocals, as Markus Marjomaa's singing isn't very good. Fortunately, the music is mostly instrumental and there aren't many vocal parts. Recommended only to the open-minded listeners, and I strongly advise listening before buying (Bathos isn't easy listening music).
