This is a re-release of Khali, which was originally released in 2000. Although Khali is still relatively unknown band, its members aren't newcomers in the metal scene. One could call Khali the "little brother" of Time Machine as most of its members are former members of Time Machine. For example, Folco Orlandini sang on Time Machine's quite highly acclaimed concept album "Act II: Galileo". Khali's music isn't the usual progressive metal (far from easy listening), but their compositions reside more on the melodic edge. Songs are mostly straight forward melodic metal with some progressive elements (actually the intention of the band was to be as heavy as Time Machine but more accessible as well. Therefore Khali's music isn't as progressive as Time Machine's). Songs are quite diverse, and there are lots of different influences audible. Most proclaimed is Queensrÿche (and the Empire album), but also others are present. For example, the vocal effects in "Winds of Ages" and "So Far Away" remind me of Mortiis (among few other effects using artists). Also some parts are reminiscent of Stratovarius. Lorenzo Dehó (Time Machine) has produced this album. The sounds are suitable, and they accentuate rhythms (probably, because Lorenzo Dehó is a bassist). Incidentally the whole album is quite rhythmically oriented. If you've listened to bands like Time Machine and Stratovarius, and would like to hear them combined, then you should check out Khali. Khali's debut offering contains about 50 minutes of melodic power metal with slightly progressive elements. Release date: 15.11.2004 - MAGE (12.11.2004) « back
