Fall of Serenity's second album "Royal Killing" favourably surprised me. As I haven't listened to Fall of Serenity's quite successful debut album "Grey Man's Requiem", I didn't know what to expect from them. According to the promo sheet, this album features a new drummer Nick Putzmann, whose skills are one reason to the band's big prospects. Songs have been crafted quite well with the listener in mind... Fall of Serenity plays melodic death metal with catchy riffs, powerful refrains and occasional twin-guitar melodies. The vocals are mostly growls, but there's also some room for clean singing (which is a nice addition). FoS has their own recognisable style, although some of their influences are still recognisable. For example, one can hear traces of At the Gates, Edge of Sanity and Iron Maiden. Royal Killing was produced by Patrick W. Engel (Rape of Harmonies), who is quite highly regarded German metal producer. So it isn't surprising that this recording does sound quite good. However, drums could have been mixed better. Overall, "Royal Killing" is a good melodic death metal album, which will please both the fans of the band and genre. Visit Artist's Website - MAGE (12.11.2004) « back
