Buried Inside is a five-piece hardcore band from Ottawa. The band was formed in 1997, and they have released three albums so far ('In And Of The Self', 'Suspect Symmetry' and Chronoclast). Prior to this release, I haven't listened to their music (except for the song on Recollection 2). I have to admit I'm not so fond of vocals sung in the hardcore way (screaming).

Musically this record is quite diverse... Basically, there are slow melodic clean passages and aggressive metal sections (the two extremes take turns on this record). Occasionally the songs are really good, but some parts aren't that felicitous.

Matt Bayles (Mastodon, These Arms Are Snakes, The Blood Brothers) took care of producing this album. The sounds are mostly good and fitting, but the occasional distortion bothers me. However, it doesn't occur too often, and most fans of hardcore don't even care about that. The cymbals should have been mixed better though...

All in all, Chronoclast ain't bad hardcore album actually, it's rather good. Some songs could have been better, and I would have liked to hear other singing style. Otherwise, I have no complaints (except the productional matters). I'm sure that fans of Buried Inside (as well as fans of some other hardcore bands) will find this release interesting.

Release dates: 17.01.2005 (US) and 30.01.2005 (Europe). It's already released in Canada (09.11.2004).
