Genre: [Heavy Metal/Nu-Metal]
Overall Rating: 8.0
Music: 8.0
Production: 8.5

Anywhere But Home is Evanescence's latest release, but it isn't a studio album. Actually it's a 2-disc live set consisting of their complete concert shot live in Paris... The concert is featured both on the CD and DVD. The latter also contains 50 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage and 4 music videos (+ the las vegas version of "Bring Me to Life" as a hidden selection on the main menu). The CD, on the other hand, contains the previously unreleased track "Missing", which is quite good.

The concert contains almost every song on "Fallen". Only "Hello" is missing from the set list. In addition to Evanescence's own songs, they performed a cover of Korn's "Thoughtless". However, I prefer the original version, because the energy of the original isn't present on Evanescence's performance. However, their interpretation of that song isn't bad (I just think that song needs the rawness of Jonathan Davis' voice).

Production on this release varies between the material. The concert itself has been recorded well, and the videos sound quite good... By quite good I mean that they've been mastered too high so distortion occurs on some of them. For example, in "Bring Me to Life" distortion occurs every now and then (mainly on guitar and some vocal parts). By the way, also navigation music in the menus has been mastered too loud (distortion occurs). Occasionally the quality of sound in Behind the Scenes material is quite bad, but fortunately not too often. The picture quality is good at all times.

Overall, "Anywhere But Home" is quite good live album. It has enough "new" material for fans of the band to check out... The CD contains the concert and a new studio track, which hasn't been released before. The DVD contains all the Evanescence music videos, some behind the scenes material and the one-hour concert available both in stereo and 5.1 surround audio.
