The Tide Turns

Year: 2003
Format: CD
Label: Lucretia
Genre: [Instrumental Neo-Progressive Rock]
Overall Rating: 8.0
Music: 8.0
Production: 7.5

The Tide Turns is the first Blezqi Zatsaz album I have ever listened to. I was quite surprised to notice that Blezqi Zatsaz is actually the solo project of keyboardist Fabio Ribeiro (Shaman, Angra). Prior to listening this album I hadn't even heard of Blezqi Zatsaz (although I have listened to both Angra and Shaman). The Tide Turns is the second Blezqi Zatsaz album and it features many acclaimed musicians...

Music on 'The Tide Turns' is progressive rock in the vein of Marillion, Yes, Electric Light Orchestra and the like. The main difference to the aforementioned influences is that all the songs on this album are instrumental. In addition, elements of classical music have been combined with progressive rock in order to create a more unique approach.

Production on this album is the weakest point... On average, the sounds are quite good. However, few clips occurred every now and then (distracting factor while listening with headphones and trying to delve deeper inside the songs). Besides the sounds were occasionally a bit thin.

Although Blezqi Zatsaz features musicians from Angra and Shaman, one can't directly recommend this album to fans of those bands as the music on "The Tide Turns" is quite different from that of Angra's. I recommend this album to listeners of instrumental music who also have listened (and might still listen) to 70's neo-prog rock bands.
