Pictures of Death is the debut album of Shadow Cut. The band was formed in the end of 2002 by Omnio and Repe F.W. Misanthrope with the intention of making variated death/black metal. Especially strong grooves are distinctive to their music.
Shadow Cut's Pictures of Death spins for 42 minutes... During that time the material remains rather even in terms of quality. However, few songs stood out with every listen. For example, one of my favourite songs on this album is 'The End of Humanity', which is definitely influenced by Nile.
Henri Sorvali (Trollhorn) produced this album... Although he didn't do a bad job, he could have performed better. One of the most unfortunate aspects of production on 'Pictures of Death' is the background noise/distortion — every now and then some distortion can be heard (fortunately, it occurs quite seldom).
Pictures of Death is fairly average debut album. It doesn't offer anything ground-breaking, but still manages to partly impress the listener.
