The second album of Total Devastation is titled as Reclusion. Since I hadn't listened to Total Devastation before receiving 'Reclusion', I didn't have any expectations regarding their music. Although I wasn't too impressed with them at first, I soon found their material more and more engrossing. Reclusion is an album that has to be listened with enough time. One has to be focused on the music in order to get the most out of it.
Total Devastation's music is a mixture of death metal, industrial metal and even metalcore. They are influenced by Autopsy, Carcass, Entombed, Ministry, Morbid Angel, Neurosis and the likes. Reclusion contains 40 minutes of harrowing death metal combined with industrial samples.
The band, together with Janne Saksa, took care of production... While Janne Saksa handled the mixing, Minerva Pappi took care of mastering. Both of them handled their jobs rather skilfully as the album sounds quite good.
Overall, I was quite favourably surprised by Total Devastation... At first I considered their music a bit repetitious, but I wasn't paying enough attention. Already with the second listen, the true nature of Reclusion unveiled. Occasionally Total Devastation has come up with really good sections, but they also have some less-successful parts in their music.
