Out of Myself is the debut album of young Polish progmetal band Riverside. Their music is a blend of atmospheric progressive rock, psychedelic rock, metal and alternative rock. Thus Riverside shares some similarity to Anathema, Porcupine Tree, Pink Floyd and Opeth (the mellow Opeth, instead of the death metal one). In my view, especially the similarity to Porcupine Tree is very prominent. With 'Out of Myself' Riverside has created an emotional journey through beautiful, fluctuating soundscapes.
The material on this album is of even quality. There are few sections that don't please me artistically, but overall the songs are very good. In addition, Mariusz Duda's voice complements the music exceptionally well.
Robert and Magda Srzedniccy handled the mixing of 'Out of Myself' professionally. The sounds are well-balanced and vivid. Also the mastering has been done well (thanks to Grzegorz Piwkowski). The only complaints I have concern few trivial details.
Out of Myself is a very good debut album by a talented Polish progmetal band. In case you listen to atmospheric progressive rock and metal, you should definitely give Riverside a listen. I expect to hear good things from this band in the near future.
There's a sample of "Loose Heart" on the Laser's Edge website for you to listen.
