Rapture's third album 'Silent Stage' favourably surprised me. Prior to listening this album, I hadn't even heard of Rapture (although I live in Finland). Rapture is one of the "less-known" Finnish metal bands, though they definitely have earned their spurs to be more widely recognized.
The music of Rapture is really reminiscent to that of Katatonia's (it's a mixture of melancholic gothic rock and melodic death metal). Therefore, there is no question of Rapture not being influenced by Katatonia (and early Paradise Lost). In addition, there's a small amount of Opeth in their music as well. Nevertheless, there's nothing wrong with emulation of well known artists with distinctive styles if it's done well.
Silent Stage has been produced rather well... The sounds are apt and the mastering has been done professionally. The recordings are clean, and fortunately not at the expense of the atmosphere.
Rapture's Silent Stage is rather good album. The quality of material is quite steady throughout the whole album, and thus there aren't any weak songs. There aren't too many bands trying to emulate Katatonia, and thus Rapture is a welcome sight on the metal scene. In case you listen to Katatonia and the like, you should definitely check out Rapture.
