Dungeon is one of the most successful metal bands of Australia. Nevertheless, I haven't listened to any of their albums in the past. 'One Step Beyond' is their third album, and it features music in the vein of Helloween, Iron Maiden, Dokken and the like.
The music on 'One Step Beyond' is a bit more diverse compared to what traditional power metal bands play. Dungeon blends classic heavy metal (à la Iron Maiden) and power metal with some elements taken from death and thrash metal genres. The vocalist of the band, Lord Tim, has been compared to Kai Hansen, but I consider his voice more pleasant than that of Hansen's.
Production was taken care by Lord Tim, who did quite a good job. Mostly the sounds are fitting, but there are some details that could be smoothened. For example, occasionally the guitar solos contain background distortion. Also the sounds could have been more full.
Dungeon's 'One Step Beyond' is a moderate metal album. Despite its slightly experimental nature, this album mainly keeps its foundation on traditional and power metal genres.
There's a sample of "The Power Within" on Limb Music Products' website for you to listen.
All the snippets of this album can be found from the music section of the official Dungeon website.
