The Australian melodic power metal band Eyefear has had quite a rocky path on their musical career due to their numerous line-up changes. '9 Elements of Inner Vision' is Eyefear's second album, although the band was already formed in the summer of 1994. Unfortunately, I haven't listened to their debut 'Edge of Existence' and thus I can't compare how significant the line-up changes have been. Nevertheless, I assume Eyefear is nowadays more progressive than it used to be, since they have a keyboardist in the band (on their debut they didn't have a keyboardist yet). '9 Elements of Inner Vision' is a blend of melodic metal and power metal with slightly progressive elements. Material on this album is somewhat varying in terms of quality, and in consequence I find myself choosing one song over another. One of my favourites on this album is the ballad 'The Script of Sorrowed Tales'. Regardless, the material is of quite even quality. Therefore, this record may sound a bit monotonous. Production on this album has been handled quite well. The sounds are fitting and rather clean (some background noise is occasionally present though). However, there's still room for improvement production-wise. It's a shame that my favourite track (The Script of Sorrowed Tales) has a clip at 3:19. Overall, Eyefear's 9 Elements of Inner Vision is quite adequate album. It has its moments, but on the other hand it's a bit too monotonous to impress me.
