Kostas started his one-man project 'Panthe´st' in 2000, but soon found himself joining forces with guitarist Nicolas. Rather quickly the line-up was finished, and a real band came into question. In 2003 their debut album 'O Solitude' was released, but already on the following year the band went through some line-up changes. Now in 2005 the band releases their second album Amartia, which should be a big step forward for the band.
Amartia is a concept album that is based on the Bible... the story of the album becomes quite apparent when one reads through the tracklist. Amartia is one of Panthe´st's most diverse and unique works thus far, and I must admit I was quite favourably surprised by it. The songs are slow, melodic funeral-paced doom metal that have a strong foundation on atmosphere, which makes the album rather pleasant to listen.
Production-wise Amartia has been done rather well. The sounds are powerful, yet atmospheric, which is pretty much the qualities sought on the releases of this genre (funeral doom metal). Nonetheless, the drums could be a bit more punchier.
Overall, Panthe´st's Amartia is quite good funeral-paced doom metal album... understandably it has some room for improvement both musically and productionally, but it might prove to be a worthy listening candidate for the fans of the genre as such.
