The debut release of Polish melodic death metal/symphonic black metal band Abused Majesty is titled as 'Serpenthrone'. The music on Serpenthrone is quite traditional melodic death metal with a hint of symphonic black metal mixed in as well. There's nothing innovative about their music, but instead Abused Majesty has trust in a their blend of basic death metal and black metal. Nonetheless, Abused Majesty is just slightly better than the average melodic death metal band, and thus their Serpenthrone album will inexorably sink into the valley of mediocrity. The lack of originality is the biggest letdown on this album, since it has quite good production.

Serpenthrone was recorded at HERTZ Studio, Bialystok. The mixing was handled by the Wieslawscy brothers, who've managed to do quite a good job. However, some details about the mix don't appeal to me. Nonetheless, the sounds are powerful and convincing.

Serpenthrope is quite well produced death/black metal album that leaves the listener craving for something... something more special. However, for a debut album one must admit it shows some promise.
