Dream Evil

The Book Of Heavy Metal

Year: 2004
Format: CD
Label: Century Media
Genre: [Heavy Metal]
Overall Rating: 9.5
Music: 9.5
Production: 9.0

This is the third album by the Sweden's most promising heavy metal band. Personally, I was a bit disappointed with their previous record but this new album is really impressive. The band has succeeded to capture the essence of heavy metal on this record. Hence, I suggest everyone who normally listens to more commercial rock (e.g. Anastacia, Bon Jovi, Creed, Guns 'n' Roses etc.) to get this album and find out what heavy metal is. Heavy metal has not been music for the masses, although after you have listened to this album you could ask why.

Niklas Isfeldt is definitively one of the best rock vocalist out there and one reason why Dream Evil rises above the mass of heavy metal bands. He has really clear, pleasant voice and he really knows how to use it. Although the album doesn't offer anything revolutionary in the scene of heavy metal, the reason why this is an excellent album is that the band shows extreme versality and high-quality on this album and thus, the record is definitively one of the best heavy metal albums released so far in 2004. In addition, the lyrics of the songs are among the best in the genre.

The record covers almost every facet of heavy metal (especially in the context of power and symphonic metal). The influences of the band are really easy to notice from the songs and, thus this record is a safe choice for the fans of Europe, Manowar, Ozzy Osborne, The Scorpions, Helloween, W.A.S.P., Alice Cooper, Judas Priest, Accept, Dio and Hammerfall. It is hard to pick a best song from this album, because there are so many good, diverse songs in this album for a metal fan. Personally, I liked "Tired" the most but there are so diverse songs that you should buy this album to find out what is the best song to your taste. Even though you are a person who normally listens to some other kind of rock music, I recommmend this album to you. This record is truly a basic course on heavy metal.
