Corrosion of Conformity is back with their lethal dose of Stoner Metal and Southern Rock. 'In the Arms of God' features a new drummer Stanton Moore, who delivers the goods rather well. His sense of rhythm blends in CoC seamlessly, thus making the songs flow rather well. Nevertheless, 'In the Arms of God' is a bit middling record every now and then.

At times the material on this album is rather good, but unfortunately there are also times when the music doesn't offer anything special. The highlight moments are somewhat rare, and thus this album becomes a bit repetitive to listen in the long run. However, there are moments when one feels the urge to to tap one's foot in time with the music (CoC has some nice rhythms going on here and there).

The sounds on this album are rather good and they suit the style very well - nonetheless, they could have been a bit rawer. Although the sounds are quite dry (there's only a bit of reverb used on drums and some delay on vocals every now and then), this album has quite atmospheric sound. The recordings are clean and the mastering has been done professionally, so there's not much to complain about the production.

If you're looking for hard-hitting, groovy yet southern rock flavoured stoner metal tunes, you might want to check out the latest Corrosion of Conformity release. However, keep in mind that this is an album that has its moments, but still has a lot of room for improvement.
