Mustan Kuun Lapset, a Finnish black metal band, was founded in 1993. However, not until 2002 did the band release their first full length album "Suruntuoja". The most distinctive feature of Mustan Kuun Lapset is that their songs are sung in Finnish - this has been the case since the beginning.

The music on this album is mostly melodic black metal with some variety to it. There are aggressive parts as well as folk melodies and other mellow sections blended here and there. Thus this recording maintains its long-term appeal rather well, although I must admit it isn't too original. Besides, I find the lyrics occasionally a bit corny, though.

Production-wise Talvenranta is about average... the sounds are powerful when needed and the recordings are clean yet atmospheric. Nonetheless, at times the mix feels slightly thin sounding.

As an added bonus, I found a video Aaria included on this CD. The video contained written English lyrics on the side, which might be of use to those who don't know a single word of Finnish. Overall, Mustan Kuun Lapset's Talvenranta is quite good black metal album if one doesn't seek originality.
