Here's a band that has gone its own way already from the beginning without caring a lot about opinions. Unsane's brand of noise rock is not only innovative but contains both catchy riffs and abrasive, aggressive vocals. Distortion is added throughout Chris Spencer's vocal performances, so his natural voice can't be heard on this record (which is a shame, since I would've liked to hear some diversity regarding the use of vocals). This band plays extreme metal that isn't for the faint-hearted ;) The definite highlight of this album is "D Train", which made an impression to me already on the first listen (and got enforced by the ensuing listens). It's unfortunate that otherwise the material on this album isn't of such quality. "D Train" has innovatiness not often heard on releases of this genre, which makes it a pleasure to listen to. The production on this album is far away from polished, which suits the album well... however, I reckon some sounds could have been mixed better without losing the atmosphere of the album. Nonetheless, the sounds are fitting, and thus complement the songs nicely. All in all, Unsane's Blood Run has some great moments but for the most part the material is a bit too monotonous...
