Due to increasing demand, Time Machine has decided to re-release their acclaimed cult-disc "Dungeons of the Vatican". However, the re-release is limited to 1000 copies dedicated only to the band's die-hard fans. The original release didn't offer much for fans, since two out of the three songs were already included on the previous EP. Therefore, this new re-release contains seven bootleg recordings dating from 1994 to 1996 in addition to the original EP. One of the bootlegs is actually a song that hasn't been released before, namely "Beyond the Window". That song was originally composed for "Act II: Galileo" but never made it to the disc. On top of all, it has been performed live only once and that live performance is now included on this limited re-release (a treat for the fans).

Time Machine is perhaps the most important progressive metal band hailing from Italy, and definitely one of the more original bands in this genre. Since their foundation, the Italian progmetal scene took off with new artists following in Time Machine's footsteps. While the material on this EP isn't nearly as good as the band writes nowadays, there are still some really good sections every now and then. The live performances show what Time Machine sounded like over ten years ago... although the vocal performances aren't anywhere near perfect and the sound quality is what it is, these live recordings will prove invaluable to the hardcore fans of the band. Especially the duet with Andre Matos (Angra, Shaman) on Kate Bush cover "Wuthering Heights" should be a real treat for the fans (although I prefer Andre Matos' studio recording of this song, since this live version doesn't attain the quality of the studio version).

As one might expect, the sound quality on this record isn't exactly of high fidelity (especially regarding the live recordings). Nonetheless, the production on the three main tracks is somewhat ok. All in all, this is a good opportunity to acquire a collector's item of Time Machine. Remember, this is a very limited edition, so if you consider yourself as a serious Time Machine fan, you'd better hurry to the store.
