Have you ever heard of Torben Enevoldsen? In case your answer is no, here's a little background on this guitarist who isn't as renowned as he could be... Enevoldsen began playing guitar in the early eighties and since then he has honed his skills towards perfection. He has already signed few endorsement deals, and actually this is his third solo album. Titled as "Flying Solo", this album contains ten melodic instrumental tracks in the vein of Yngwie Malmsteen and the like. The music on this album is a blend of instrumental hard rock, metal and at times there are even some atmospheric either clean or acoustic passages. Unlike most shredders, Torben Enevoldsen uses shredding as an occasional effect to add dynamics into his songs. Therefore, this album contains some laid-back guitar melodies as well. The eighties have definitely left a mark to Enevoldsen's music, since he uses twin-guitar harmonies as well as other techniques characteristic to that decade. The sounds on this album are quite good, although there's definitely some room for improvement. For example, the drums could have been mixed better. All in all, Flying Solo is rather good instrumental rock album. Enevoldsen has ear for melodies and his fluent changes in song structures are pleasure to listen to. If only he'd curtail some of his shredding and use more melodic approach on those sections instead, this would be a great album... Visit Artist's Website - MAGE (May 26th, 2005) « back
