The Syracuse-based Brand New Sin is back with their second album "Recipe for Disaster". This time backed by Century Media Records, BNS delivers a hard-hitting Southern-influenced hard rock record. Together with catchy choruses and aggressive playing, this record is destined to attain widespread interest from the metal and rock audiences alike. The sheer crudity present in Altier's voice as well as his more melodic overtones provide the music rather fitting counterpart.

Unfortunately, the music on this album tends to get a bit repetitious in the long run. Therefore, few songs stand out from the rest... the highlights on this album are "Black and Blue" (the single), "Vicious Cycles", "Another Reason" and "Once in a Lifetime". Other than that, this record is rather monotonous.

The production on this album is rather good... the sounds are quite fitting and the album has been mastered fairly loud without losing the dynamics - for example, on "Another Reason" both ferocius rock and more tranquil playing is present. All in all, this hard rock album belongs to the better half of middle-ranking records - "Recipe for Disaster" has its moments, but could still be better in many ways.
