The Ga Ga S is a fairly new band that was formed three years ago by a 19-year old, Somerset-born singer/guitarist/songwriter Tommy Gleeson. Unlike most newcomer bands, these guys managed to get a record deal with the renowned Sanctuary Records. "Tonight the Midway Shines" was already recorded last year, but back then it wasn't even titled. In July 2004 the Ga Ga S decided to release 1000 copies of double a-side single ‘Replica/KO’, all of which were sold within one week. Their ensuing tour earned them the record deal, and now a year later their debut album is finally released.

Material-wise this album is quite steady... nonetheless, there are few songs clearly above the rest. For example, "Severed" is one of the highlights of "Tonight the Midway Shines". Both mellow songs and more hard-hitting rock tunes are included on this release, which ensure that the listening experience is fluctuating. Nonetheless, I would have wished to hear a bit more creative approach in songwriting.

Sonically this album is quite good... the sounds are mostly to the point, and the mastering is level-headed. All in all, this is quite good album that definitely appeals to some listeners of rock.
