The story of Mind's Eye reaches back to 1992, when the band was initially formed under the name "Afterglow". Since that band name was already taken by a German death metal group, the decision to change the band name to "Mind's Eye" was made. A Work of Art is the band's third album, and it gets re-released now by Lion Music as a part of ME's new record deal. In case you have heard this album before (like I have), there are two bonus tracks included on this re-release. The first one is a cover of Queensr˙che's "I Will Remember", which naturally is a great rendition of the song. The second song, on the other hand, isn't that especial.

A Work Of Art contains mostly laid-back melodic progressive rock tunes that are a pleasure to listen to. The songs are intriguing both lyrically and musically, which ensures the long-time interest of this release remains good. If I was to pigeon-hole the music of Mind's Eye, I'd say it's a blend of Genesis, Toto, Yes, Winger and Queensr˙che among few others. Overall the quality of material on this album remains rather steady, so fans of melodic prog might want to give Mind's Eye a listen.

The band members Daniel Flores and Fredrik Grünberger produced and mixed this album by themselves, since Flores has actually studied music production and engineering at the Stockholm Music Conservatory. The result is quite warm sounding, atmospheric record that still has some room for improvement. For example, the drums could have sounded better. In any event, the sounds on this record are rather good.

If you have missed the original release of this album and you listen to progressive music, you should definitely give "A Work Of Art" a spin or two. However, if you already have the original, you might want to wait for the release of their new studio album "Walking on H20".
