In Your Honor

Year: 2005
Format: CD
Label: RCA/SonyBMG
Genre: [Rock/Bossanova]
Overall Rating: 7.5
Music: 7.0
Production: 8.0

Since the majority is already acquainted with the ex-Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl's band Foo Fighters (formed back in 1995), we'll go to the point straight away. In Your Honor is the fifth studio album of Foo Fighters, and it contains 20 songs on two CDs (so one should get one's money's worth on this release). The first disc is more hard-hitting rock while the second disc contains more laid-back acoustic tunes. Both CDs have their moments, and it comes down to personal taste which one considers better.

The gamut of genres covered on this release is somewhat laudable as one can even hear a slightly jazz-tinged bossanova song "Virginia Moon" on this record. Depending on the material, Dave Grohl's vocals vary from shouting to more gentle "real" singing approach. Unfortunately, the material on "In Your Honor" tends to become a bit repetitive in the end (and this is the case regarding both discs).

The sounds on this record are somewhat apposite... especially on the second disc. Nonetheless, there's definitely room for improvement regarding the cymbals and various other aspects of the mix (notably on the first disc). Overall, this is rather solid effort, which probably appeals to the majority of fans... regardless, I recommend listening beforehand in the store.
