Side Two is the second installment of the trilogy Adrian Belew is working on. Each record on this trilogy is intended to be different, and this time Belew has decided to use terse haiku-like lyrics. In case you're not sure who Adrian Belew is, he's best known from King Crimson and David Bowie. He also has numerous contributions and touring history under his belt... he has worked with Zappa, Porcupine Tree, Man on Fire and Nine Inch Nails, just to name few. The music on this record is very experimental and rich in influences although it's mostly loop-driven. Therefore, I reckon it's best to leave descriptions aside (one has to hear it oneself). If I was to name any highlights, I'd say "Sex Nerve" impresses me with its oriental guitar melodies. Nonetheless, other songs have their own intriguing features. Production has been carried out proficiently, and thus the sounds on this record are both detailed and full. Ken Latchney handled recording and mixing of this album at StudioBelew. Mastering, on the other hand, took place at Georgetown Masters by Andrew Mendelson. Some might be put off by the length of this record, but it's actually just right. Being an extensively experimental album, a long duration isn't that preferable. Therefore, Belew's decision to keep Side Two relatively short is a wise one. Be sure to check this out, in case you're into experimental music. Visit Artist's Website - MAGE (August 29th, 2005) « back
