From the mind of Thomen Stauch, a new power metal band called Savage Circus emerges. As an underlying are Stauch's new compositions. which didn't fit to the direction of his former band (Blind Guardian). Thus he had to start a side project that eventually turned into his main band. Together with Piet Sielck (Iron Savior) as well as Jens Carlsson and Emil Norberg of Persuader-fame, the group quickly took its current form. Musically this group is very similar to Iron Savior... regardless, there are also some new ground covered on Savage Circus' debut album. For instance, the music on this record is more varying than that of Iron Savior's (there are some cool, intriguing ideas scattered throughout this album). On the negative side, one could say the songs offer a patchwork impression as the parts change without many recaps. In addition, the song structure changes aren't always that apposite. Fortunately the use of vocals is somewhat experimental on this record (therefore this album retains its interest for a longer period of time). Surprisingly Sielck's backing vocals characterize the music, although he isn't even the lead singer on this record. Similarly to the production of Iron Savior, there's occasionally some background distortion audible on guitar leads. Otherwise the sounds are rather apt for a power metal record. Overall, Savage Circus is a good power metal band that's definitely worth getting acquainted with. Visit Artist's Website - MAGE (October 16th, 2005) « back
