The South African metal band Seether have finally finished their second/third album "Karma and Effect". Faithfully following the style of their previous records (Disclaimer I & II), this album is modern metal with an aggressive edge to it. The material on "Karma and Effect" is somewhat steady in terms of quality (if one doesn't count the last hidden track). Regardless, few tracks stood out already on the first listen... these being Truth, The Gift, Burrito and Simplest Mistake. Ensuing listens only reinforced my first impression. Both ballads and straight-forward metal songs made their way onto this record - in equal strength, even. Nevertheless, the soundscape remains uniform, and the best of both worlds are present on the record. Karma and Effect was recorded at Henson Studios and Avatar Studios... mixing took place at the former by Randy Staub (with the exception of the second track, which was mixed by Rich Costey). Mastering, on the other hand, was handled by Tom Baker at Precision Mastering. The sounds are both full and vigorous. However, at times slight background distortion managed to crawl into the mix. Nonetheless, the mix is clean for the most part. In case American Rock and Modern Metal is close to your heart, you will most likely find Seether's Karma and Effect intriguing listening experience.
