Brian "Head" Welch has left from Korn, and the band has also changed label... one can only wonder about what the new Korn sounds like. Excitedly as well as anxiously I insert the seventh Korn album "See You on the Other Side" into my CD player. Seemingly the afore-mentioned circumstances haven't affected the songwriting of the group much... well, at least not too much. See You on the Other Side introduces a slightly more experimental Korn, and it quite evidently looks like their album suffers slightly from this fact (cohesion isn't on the same level as with their "Untouchables"). However, Korn still has included a lot of material that appeals to the old fans (actually some of it manages to remind of their previous efforts). SYotOS got mastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound, NYC... Mixing on the other hand was handled at Henson Recording Studios by Terry Date. The sounds are both heavy and assertive, although some individual details are slightly annoying (for example, the bag pipe sounds shrilly). In addition, slight distortion occasionally leaks into the mix, but that has also been the case with previous Korn releases. Overall, Korn's See You on the Other Side is fairly good nu-metal album. Although it has its good sides, it could have been even better as well. Nevertheless, the more one listens to the record, the more its material grows on the listener.
