Guy Manning's seventh studio album brings a refreshing breeze of relaxed, upbeat progrock. Inspired by the original artwork of Ed Unitsky (an artist, whose art can previously be seen on albums by The Flower Kings, The Tangent, and last but not least Guy Manning). In case you aren't familiar with Manning's work, he has lately gained some recognition by being a member of the rather successful progressive rock band Tangent. As a multi-instrumentalist, Manning has performed almost all the music on this record himself. Regardless, also other talented musicians share their musicianship on this CD... Martin Orford of IQ & Jadis fame, Laura Fowles and Gareth Harwood, to name but a few. The music on this album is emotive, and the arrangements contain tactful depth to them. Indeed a very pleasant record to which one lets one's mind journey into. The production of this album has been handled rather well, although some sounds catched my attention unfavourably. Fortunately, this occurred very seldom. Overall, Manning's One Small Step... is a very good progressive rock record. Be sure to give it a listen.
