All the Waters of This World

Year: 2002
Format: CD
Label: ProgRock
Genre: [Atmospheric Rock / World]
Overall Rating: 7.5
Music: 7.5
Production: 8.0

Seattle-based piano-vocalist Aaron English has made a self-produced debut album with a five-piece band (often supported by full string orchestrations). Although I'm not fond of his voice, the music is occasionally quite good. Harmonies, lush orchestral arrangements etc. are all apposite. However, I wouldn't call this progressive rock.

Songs are somewhat diverse, despite the fact they're exploring the world genre (world-musicians usually sound alike). Almost every song has some really good parts, but there's also some mediocre parts in them... It's a shame, because this album could have been very good otherwise (with a better singer, though). To name a highlight track of this album, I recommend you to listen to eighth track 'Mandeleine', which has lush string orchestrations.

Production on this album is quite good. However, some sectors of production, such as drums' sound, could have been done better. Otherwise the production is good. Mastering has been done quite well there's no distortion, but volume levels seem to vary slightly (the differences aren't significant, though).

All the Waters of This World is moderate debut album, and I recommend it to fans of Peter Gabriel, Paul Simon and Sting. Especially fans of World-genre will like it, but it might be of interest to others as well. Be sure to check out the samples at ProgRock Records' website to see if this album is for you.
