Sicknote is 5-piece band from Finland's metal capital Oulu. On their first full album they're aiming at the hearts of hard rock metal fans. This album was released in March 2005, six years after the band was formed by the string trio. Quickly after that drummer was found and their singer was hanging out on the local bar on one faithful evening. Now they're out there and claim to make music for the "intelligent and sophisticated" headbangers.

Without some sliding and somewhat bluesy guitar licks and vocalist's efforts (which you either love or hate) this band would be lost in the crowd. With these properties the Sicknote has a chance. The weaker part of the album are the songs or them being somewhat repeating. As where as the album opener "Reptile Queen" starts to roll nicely and has catchy chorus phrase, the rest of the songs are along the same lines, never reaching the level of the first song.

The production of the album is raw and rude as the title suggests. In that sense the band has got what they probably wanted from the production. Unfortunately this makes the album a bit tiresome to listen. It doesn't help either that the master is too loud and therefore distorts the overall sound a bit. It seems that the album is made mostly in the homestudio by A. Karppinen, band's drummer. Taking that into account the end result is ok.

Check them out if you're fan of the genre and see how your infection will be. Mine was slightly negative.
