With his latest album Super Colossal Satch has returned to his roots by composing an album full of vibe. As with Satriani's most memorable tunes, vibe has always been one of the most important elements on his songs. This time around there's no question about it, Super Colossal is unchallengeably one of Satriani's best efforts to date - and it isn't even surprising, if one let's oneself to get carried away with the music. Musically a lot hasn't changed since the early days... this is by no means an experimental album such as Engines of Creation was. Instead Super Colossal relies on more traditional material in the vein of Surfing with the Alien, Flying in a Blue Dream, Crystal Planet and Strange Beautiful Music. The production of Super Colossal has been handled really skilfully. Mike Fraser handled the mixing at The Armoury and George Marino mastered the album at Sterling Sound, NYC. Combined with great musicianship and amazing songs, Super Colossal showcases just why Joe Satriani is regarded as one of the most celebrated guitar virtuosos.
