Ready for Porn Stanley? Well, that's a special treat waiting for you to see on Shadows Fall's DVD release "The Art of Touring (Drunk and Sh--ty in Every City)". As the back cover of the DVD case promises, "this exclusive DVD features nearly 2 hours of brutally raw live concert, backstage, and behind-the-scenes destruction". When it says brutally raw, it really means it - the quality of live recordings isn't too astonishing. Nonetheless, this record provides fairly enjoyable pastime activity for any listener of this group - if one can get past the lamentable production.

Musically Shadows Fall is a blend of new-school and old-school heavy metal, which has garnered them some widespread fame. SF balances between brutal, extreme metal and more classical, melodic rock rendition, and this is what distinguishes them from most metalcore acts. If nothing else, The Art of Touring readies Shadows Fall fans for the upcoming album.

Production-wise this DVD is quite a disappointment - it's rather bootleggish, instead of being professionally shot. For example, there are some slight artifacts in the picture at times. Otherwise the picture quality is varying - on music videos it's ok, but on gig footage it isn't that great. The same applies to sound quality as well (with regard to varying quality) - I was glad to see the tribute to Dimebag, but it's a shame the sound quality is really inferior on it. Nevertheless, for all diehard fans of Shadows Fall this DVD will most likely be a must-buy.
