Good ol' hard rock never dies, eh? Well, Megattack has been on a hiatus for nearly 20 years, but last year the group decided in favour of comeback with the release of "Save the Nations". This record consists of ten hard-hitting hard rock/hair metal tunes that actually manage to adjust the listener's mindset to the eighties. The music is fairly similar to that of Dio's, Ozzy Osbourne's and Alice Cooper's, though there's also a hint of originality among the influences - for example, the title track's intro has a groove similar to Chick Corea. The guitarwork of Gough and Hultquist is enthralling, and especially the melodically inclined solos are rather appealing to listen. The quality of song material on this record is quite steady, though some songs make stronger impression than others... amazingly there are quite a few really catchy tunes with memorable choruses, which won't leave one's head for a while. In addition, Rick Jackson's voice has a somewhat charismatic rasp to it that further strengthens the impact. The production on this record is fairly moderate, though fitting to the genre. Partly the lyrics are a bit cheesy, as with the "It's magic" chorus on the second track (a song that otherwise had quite good lyrics). Nonetheless, the songs are quite enjoyable to listen, and slight cheesiness regarding lyrics has always belonged to the eighties' hair metal scene. Overall, Megattack's comeback album should please most listeners of hard rock and hair metal. Visit Artist's Website - MAGE (May 4th, 2006) « back
