Much to my surprise I received Opera Noire's new record quite some time ago. I hadn't heard of this group before, so I had my doubts if this group would have anything special to offer. They play rather traditional gothic rock accompanied with those ordinary low male vocals. Fortunately enough this group has managed to infuse their material with some emotion, which is audible at times. On top of that, they make a good use of still water sections.

The vocal sounds on this record are quite vivid. Otherwise the production is pretty moderate, and I especially would've wished to hear a bit smoother guitar tone. In addition, sounds were a bit too boomy every now and then, and some synth sections sounded cheap. In any event, Opera Noire's Bad Intent is fairly enjoyable gothic rock album. Like most new groups on the gothic scene, Opera Noire doesn't have much new to offer... though every now and then they have made some surprising choices on this record. The Fairy Lady, for example, has been realized rather surprisingly.
