In 1998 Olaf Thörsen, the former guitarist of the Italian band Lab˙rinth, decided to form Vision Divine. Vision Divine was originally intended as a solo project, but soon Fabio Lione (ex-Lab˙rinth, Rhapsody) joined the band. Vision Divine (solo project) turned into a real band. Mat Stancioiu (drums), Andrew McPauls (keyboards) and Andrea Tower Torricini (Bass) completed the line-up. Since then, the line-up has changed almost completely... Andrew, Mat and Fabio left the band, and they were replaced by Oleg Smirnoff (ex-Eldritch) on keyboards, Matteo Amoroso (ex-Athena) on drums and Michele Luppi on Vocals.

Stream of Consciousness is a concept album telling a story of a madman suffering from schizophrenia. The album opens with a question: What's the meaning to push ourselves so far away, beyond the limits of our human conscience and was it worth the price? This question appears throughout the album (62 minutes) in different forms...

Songs are quite diverse, ranging from melodic sentimentality to heavier aggression. The story fits seamlessly with the songs (which is important considering this is a concept album)... Solos are apposite, song structures are engrossing — there's not much to complain. Even the production on this album is very solid. Of course, views regarding production vary between people (as they do regarding music). By the way, the middle solo on 'the Fallen Feather' reminded me of Ozzy's Diary of Madman (sonically). Maybe it was intended so as this album's theme spins around a madman.

Stream of Consciousness is very good concept album (usually progressive metal bands want to compose a concept album, but they don't spend enough time to come up with a good theme). Fortunately Vision Divine spent enough time to finish this album with flying colours. I recommend this album to the fans of progressive and melodic metal.
