Melodic Death Thrash is nowadays rather popular. By Death Thrash I refer of course to the trendy death metal that blends both clean vocals and growls. Craftily named Mygrain (sounds really close to migraine, doesn't it?) is one of the newest additions to this field. Their debut release is titled as Orbit Dance, and it features eleven tracks full of attitude.

I have quite mixed thoughts regarding Mygrain's album. There are some really good parts, such as the intro of Pitch-Black, here and there, but at times the material just doesn't deliver that well... all the songs just don't manage to come to grips with the listener. On top of that the vocalist still has some room to develop, though at times he manages to pull his lines off with credibility (for example, I really enjoyed the afore-mentioned Pitch-Black).

Orbit Dance has been produced quite well, though I would have preferred slightly warmer guitar tone and not quite as clumped mastering as it had. Overall, Mygrain's debut is quite good album. Sure it still has a lot of room for improvement, but there's also a lot positive about it. I'm sure that some listeners of melodic death thrash metal will find Mygrain a group worth checking out. I, for one, will await for their future releases with some interest.
