Shadows Fall is one of the best-selling metalcore/extreme thrash metal groups, and for a reason. At first glance their music doesn't seem special at all, instead it's rather close to traditional metalcore - however, when one pays closer attention to their compositions, one notices the wider dynamic range Shadows Fall covers on their songs. Though not all songs are as diverse as some, the material is coated with slithery melodies and gimlety hooks for the most part.

Surprisingly Fallout from the War isn't truly Shadows Fall's second studio album, as it contains only few brand new songs. Otherwise the material consists of re-recordings of some old rarities along with cover renditions of Dangerous Toys, Only Living Witness, and Leeway. Altogether this record starts off fairly blandly, but the material improves towards the end.

Production on this record is rather apposite - the sounds are strong, and the vocals have been brought forth. All in all, Shadows Fall's Fallout from the War is quite good metalcore record that definitely appeals to all SF-fans.
