You may not have heard of Canadian instrumental guitarist Jason Sadites before. That was also my case, prior to receiving Jason's debut record "Orbit". Though there are quite many guitarists out there trying to make a name for themselves, not that many have what it takes to distinguish themselves from others. Unfortunately Jason Sadites also falls in the middle, since he sounds more like other well-known guitarists rather than having a signature sound of his own. Regardless, both his songs and playing on this record are really good which make up for the lack of originality. The most prominent influences on Orbit are Joe Satriani, Jeff Beck and Steve Vai (in addition, Jason lists Kevin Breit and Alex Lifeson as his influences). Like Satch, Jason has managed to craft pleasantly groovy tunes with slithery melodies. The quality of material on this record is rather steady, and time passes quite rapidly with this album. The production on this record is fairly good, though I would have wished to hear slightly more assertive drums. Regardless, the guitar and bass tones are nicely transparent and atmospheric. All told, Jason Sadites' Orbit is an enjoyable instrumental record appealing to the fans of Satch, Beck and Vai. Along with the lack of distinctiveness, its biggest drawback is perhaps the sudden end, as Nail Biter doesn't sound like the final song (in my view, Away would have been the perfect ending for this album, so the song order could have been a bit better).
