Nine years after the release of Ricochet's debut, the group surprises everyone by releasing another album. Zarah - A Teartown Story is a touching, emotionate concept album of a young girl's painful life ranging from her abusive childhood to her very last moments. This all is encapsulated by the group's marvellous performance.

The record takes a really strong start with the intro and the second track - Teartown. Similarly the whole album is rather strong, though at times the material has a bit weaker moments. As a whole Ricochet's Zarah - A Teartown Story is rather successful theme album. The dynamic range and diversity of the material on this record is fairly numinous. Nonetheless, some of the best parts seem to be borrowed from others - for example, A New Days Rising begins with a riff reminding me of "The Rumble" performed by Steve Vai and Chick Korea.

The production on this record has been handled quite well. The sounds are balanced and atmospheric. The whole album is a pleasure to listen to, and submerge oneself in. I warmly recommend familiarizing oneself with Ricochet, if theme-based progrock albums are close to one's heart.
