A new progmetal group from Poland?! Last time I gave a listen to polish newcomers to the progmetal scene I was favourably surprised - Riverside had something really appealing about their music. Unfortunately, this isn't exactly the case with their fellow countrymen Sandstone, whose debut release "Looking for Myself" recently got under my inspection.

I've listened to the album already five times in a row, and I can't stop thinking that something's definitely missing here... the group seems to have musicianship to craft great pieces, as the calm ballad sections are rather good (Youth, for example) and at times there are some good bits here and there. However, as a whole the songs on "Looking for Myself" aren't as impressive as I'd like. In addition, the feeble production (thin sounds) doesn't actually help the material to make stronger impact on the listener.

I reckon the album title "Looking for Myself" is appropriate, since it feels as if the group's still doing some soul-searching - they yet haven't found what they're best at, so their weaknesses occasionally come through. Sure Sandstone has potential, but they still have a long journey ahead of them. Looking for Myself is all-round good effort, but still has a lot room for development regarding the memorability of songs.
