Hurt's unimaginatively titled debut album "Vol. 1" takes a rather strong start with Shallow and Rapture... those two songs really managed to impress me. In addition, the album closer "House Carpenter" is quite good song. Based on those three songs, I already bet that this group could have a bright future ahead of them - they definitely have the potential. Unfortunately the quality of material isn't that steady throughout the whole album, which also seems to have its lows.

The music of Hurt is emo-tinted rock with some symphonic elements along with innovative and dynamic use of vocals. Another laudable feature of Hurt's music is their progressive use of song structures - they honestly manage to surprise the listener. In addition, they have crafted amazingly pervasive hooks that grip the listener right away - a knack that many groups are lacking.

Sounds on this record are fairly balanced... I'd say the production has been handled with skill. All in all, Hurt's debut offering is a good record that makes this group one of the bands to watch for in the near future.
