As you have probably noticed, I'm a fan of diversity. I always respect change as long as it's for the better... however, there's always a risk of ending up with an inconsistent record if there is too much variance between the songs. Fortunately enough this isn't the case with The Haunted's latest offering The Dead Eye.

This Swedish thrash metal group got their original singer back already for their previous release rEVOLVEr in 2004, but it wasn't until now that the band has really broadened their music. The Dead Eye is a mixture of post-rock and rawer hardcore & thrash metal. The transitions to calmer still-water sections, which remind me of Katatonia, have been realized surprisingly well. In addition, the song writing on this record is mostly good, and also the production has been done with skill.

Overall, this record is quite good with few weaker sections here and there. Regardless, be sure to give The Dead Eye a listen before buying, since it might not be The Haunted you're used to listening. In case you didn't like rEVOLVEr, you probably won't find this album appealing either.
