Cradle of Filth's latest opus Thornography delivers quite a dosage of tasteful melodies and entrancing atmospheres. Thrashy & simple riffage in the vein of Megadeth and the like pave the way for Dani's distinctive vocals. Musically CoF continues to orient towards more commercial music, making their black metal accessible even for the masses. However, simplicity is also the downside of this record as the material loses some of its shimmer in the long run.

Quite surprisingly Thornography features Ville Valo as a guest vocalist on one track, but his appearance is fairly minimalistic as he only sings backing vocals. Over and above, Dirty Harry appears on the album closer "Temptation", which is a Heaven 17 cover. The material on this record is rather solid and evocative. Andy Sneap handled his job well behind the mixing console as the production sounds really good. Overall, Thornography is a good atmospheric black metal record that should appeal to both new and old fans of the group.
