Circus of Fools is the third album by the Finnish melodic metallers Machine Men. Their music is a blend of Kamelot, Edguy, and dozen of other well-known melodic power metal groups along with classic acts such as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. Unfortunately Machine Men don't manage to craft a distinctive sound of their own, but instead their songs remind me of other groups. Regardless, the quality of material on Circus of Fools is rather good. For example, the atmospheric and melodic tune 'The Shadow Gallery' stands out from the rest, and shows how much potential this group does possess. In any event, the production on this record doesn't fall short of the quality of songwriting either, though sounds get slightly distorted at times. All in all, Circus of Fools is a good stepping stone towards a more indivualistic sound - Machine Men have already proven to be assertive, yet they still need to find a way to differentiate from the rest.
