Paradise Lost opens with Oculus ex Inferni, great composition and mix of soaring metal band and orchestra. The album continues with the intensity of "The Odyssey". Heavy Pantera -like riffs and Russell Allens relentless vocals carries the next songs until the title song which is a classic SyX medium tempo epic ballad. To me that's the strongest song on the album with its uplifting atmosphere and beautiful chorus. "Eve of Seduction" has nice and groovy edge and its unisono and solo section is a classic SyX moment. All in all there's no fillers on this album which is a remarkable feat.

Production are up to standards and its tone is familiar from previous SyX albums. Nice and precise mix with really tasteful mastering. I personally would have liked to hear darker tones from guitar, more keyboards and less aggressive vocals on certain parts of the album. The orchestration quality have gone up a notch from previous efforts.

At this point SyX shouldn't be unfamiliar band to fans of the genre and with their latest release and tour with Dream Theater should be a leap forward for their career. Fans, buy it. If you don't know the band yet and symphonic progressive metal appeals to you, be sure to grab this album and its predecessors next time you're shopping.
