During the past few months I've had the pleasure to listen to Archetypes and Repetition, a favourably surprising debut offering by South Carolinas Deepfield. This promising group combines several genres into a cohesive one and hence forms a somewhat distinctive sound of their own without forgetting pop-sensibilities. Their influences vary from Porcupine Tree to Silverchair, which already makes listening to their debut quite a stirring experience.

Deepfield successfully combines intrinsic melodies with vocal harmonies and eloquent riffing. The material on their debut flows effortlessly and is quite steady in terms of quality. Regardless, I found some of the tracks better than others. The album ends with a surprising cover choice - a rock rendition of En Vogue's "Don't Let Go", which is actually rather good. All in all, I'd recommend giving Deepfield a chance in case you're into pop-tinged emo-flavoured rock.
