Formed back in 1994, Finnish thrash & black metal trio Urn has slowly but surely built a reputation for themselves in the underground scene. On their third album, Soul Destroyers, the band serves dark-tinged metal with attitude yet they do it with varying success - at times the riffs are rather catchy and melodic, but unfortunately the album as a whole isn't that impressive. However, the record improves towards the end, and in my view "Blood of the Desecrators" and "Decibel Hellstorm" are the most memorable highlights of Soul Destroyers.

Production on this record is somewhat average - suits the music of this genre well, but still could be improved as it doesn't impress the listener at any level. All in all, Urn's Soul Destroyers is quite a moderate old-school metal release combining thrash and black metal in an unimaginative way. Hopefully on their next release the group will come up with more adventurous approach to songwriting without confining themselves to undistinguished riffing.
